WTF dude?Played both, I hate the Steep controls. Disappointing as there is still not a fully complete freeskiing game out there, and right now I don't think Steep will accomplish that.I agree with the comparison of people who participate in winter sports and just gamers, I love skiing so I think it is expected for me to like SNOW's mechanics, but they are still enjoyable for someone who doesn't ski or snowboard.After playing both of the games and spending time in both Discord's and Redditboards, its funny to see how the communities defend their games so much (wich is rather understandable). Really just a matter of preference aswell...To me, the sound seems slightly better in Steep, really adds up to the graphical atmosphere.Both games shouldn't be compared too strictly.
All the hills and natutal jumps lead to another point in the line to continue riding and so, a very smooth flow of gameplay is guaranteed.In the real world, the mountains aren't designed for maximum riding pleasure. Note, that we only know a part of the full steep map and there might be equally good places in Mont Blanc, Switzerland or the Cursed Mountains, but for now, the unlocked Steep mountains just feel like a very big pile of backcountry, wich doesn't have to be a bad thing, it just depends on preference.For the Atmosphere, Steep really gets my point. The game originally came out in 2016 and lets you ride the slopes down Alaska or the Alps. I think Snow is much better and has better less arcadey music. Not only because of the better graphics, but also because walking through thick needle forests, seeing the pike surrounded by fog in the distance really is a feeling I just can't get in Snow. Snow is a game for people who enjoy downhill, action, fast-paced rides, tricks and combos; Steep is a game for people who enjoy cross-country, atmosphere, looks, taking time and the "real feel"generally it comes down to if you're a gamer or you actually do winter sports in real life.If you're a gamer you're gonna like Steep as it has more qualities that appeal to people that don't do winter sports irl such as graphics and the tricks are easier to perform as you press one button one time and do a complete trick, as with Snow, it appeals to people who ski or snowboard irl a lot more because the physics are far more realistic, the parks are built after real parks and the tricks take actual control to perform and you have to hold controls the whole way through or else you land on your head. Both games shouldn't be compared too strictly. Snow is a game for people who enjoy downhill, action, fast-paced rides, tricks and combos; Steep is a game for people who enjoy cross-country, atmosphere, looks, taking time and the "real feel" Let me just tell you what I think of both games and how they compare. For example, when I'm standing on a wingsuit pad in Steep, I know that the game expects me to dive down the cliff before me and try to fly through this ridiculously small loops, but I can just strap on my skis or snowboard and take the risk of messing up after two seconds - just to get an awesome line after the 50th try.Also, the side maps in Snow are all orientated from rl competitions, so +1 for that...Regardless of the animation and graphics of both games, I am gonna compare how the trick system in each game feels. As for the grabs and Axis you can rotate, Snow feels way more comfortable, as you have well defined button combinations to perform grabs, wich you can combo with extra buttons and Sticks to flip, roll or turn.
realistically it depends if you're into winter-sports IRL, or if you're a gamer looking for something new.imo the video is fine, it proves my point completely in the sense that Steep is more appealing to people that don't have the exposure to skiing and snowboarding in real life, the same way that SSX does, and Snow appeals to those who ski and snowboard IRL.Using a very grey night scene for most of the Snow shots versus bright day shots for Steep was bad reviewing.
Movement is clunky and tricks are bland - there's 3 possible grabs you can do, and I haven't figured out if it's even possible to cork. You have to find out yourself how to get down the safest, fastest or "sickest" way.
Bold and ambitious, the development team behind Steep went the distance by adding skiing, wingsuit gliding, and snowboarding to their extreme sports video game. It's hard to even initiate a trick.The campaign, graphics, world and map are all better than SNOW, but at the end it's still a game on skiing/snowboarding - and SNOW'S mechanics are leagues above Steep's. In steep, once you started, theres no turning back from the direction you've chosen (afaik) and you just rotate slower. The best part is that you can compare runs with the best in the world.
