I know a guy on another forum who's Nile Puffer grew a foot in 12 months and is now 1.5' long!i dont know anyone that has managed to keep anything with them, other species or own, on long term. All of us in the hobby have made so many mistakes and as a result so many fish have died but as long as you learn your lesson and do different next time it all works out.

The first few I added darted away from the Fahaka right away. He was laying on the bottom of the tank, belly full, next to 2 dead / dying Columbians. Feb 18, 2005 #1 I've been reading through these pages and have seen Sir Minnions web page and I really want a fahaka puffer.

I imagined they would look great schooling along side my b.a. I have added to the colony and there are a school of 15 living with the Fahaka. tetras.
I wrestled with the idea of posting this for several hours because i’m a bit embarrassed, ….but I figured other aquarists can learn from my mistake so it’s the right thing to do. The Fahaka puffer has not eaten one Buenos Aires Tetra to date.
the picture I posted does not do them justice, but it’s the best one I could take after several attempts. the minum tnak size for a fahaka is 450litres. They only had 9, so I bought all 9 and brought them home. The Fahaka requires a very large aquarium with tank mates of similar size and disposition. They should do fine with my Fahaka! Columbian Tetras are normally $4.99 each at Petsmart and have always been one of my favorites.

I would use fine sand, but careful with the type of filtration you use. All in all, quite happy … Whats the ideal tank set up for a fahaka puffer? Water temperature in the wild is about +24…+26 °C and its habitat is among thickly planted areas where it feeds on shellfish.

I have mine in a 55 gallon corner tank and he has plenty of room. Best to use a wet and dry system.My 5" fahaka crunch some hard corals, starfish skeleton, (not live corals) , I guess just to sharpen the beak.

Never tried plants with them though.

These puffers need to be able to completely turn around in the tank unobstructed. Only advice I wanted to give is you had said you wanted to net your puffer to take him out while you put the other fish in. he is already about 8 inches so he has some room to grow i will keep everyone updated on my progress right now my lfs has him on hold for me! The Fahaka “got up” a few minutes later and starting swimming around.
I think he basically “got the jump on them” when I added them to the tank. But all in all, fahaka is what I want the most.
The adult Fahaka Puffer needs a lot of space, and a tank at least 125 gallons in recommended. I have started my setup for a Fahaka Puffer.
