It’s so awful what has happened. Christian does such a wonderful job of capturing the people, the landscape, the culture, and the spirit of the place. Roughnecks and ranchers, people who have lived there all their lives, others passing through staying for a while to work at strip clubs. I like the personal stories from the host’s family, the roughneck family, the history of petroleum in the region, and the part about Big Bend NP. In light of recent events, I came back to this podcast. It’s a refreshing look on the industry. Spot on work. A little hard to listen too and some points for this oil field wife but it’s just the reality of life in the patch. This modern-day gold rush has sent both big oil companies and scrappy start-ups scrambling to secure a piece of the action. Really well down and insightful. Learned so many things. I have a son working in Midland so it hit really close to home. Texas Monthly’s Christian Wallace follows characters along every rung of the oil field ladder, from the executive cutting billion-dollar deals to the itinerant pipeline worker risking life and limb, and from the traveling exotic dancer following the trail of money to those who worry that our planet is on a path to destruction. Marfa isn’t a bad little town.

At the time that it was released I couldn’t have imagined the world we’d be living in just a few months later. Listening to Chris reminded how different the West Texas accent is from the East Texas accent. The natives seemed to instantly dislike me and my crew, no matter how polite we tried to be.
